  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (from about 3 large oranges, pulp removed)
  • For the Frosting:
  • 18 Tablespoons salted butter (room temperature)
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 6 Tablespoons fresh orange juice

Instructions

Making the Orange Filling:

  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine the sugar and flour, whisking thoroughly to ensure no lumps. Add the fresh orange juice and egg yolks, whisking quickly until well combined. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a full boil (this typically takes about 3 minutes).
