Meet Jisa’s Farmstead Cheese: A Commitment to Quality

Pronounced Yee-Shaw, Jisa Farmstead Cheese embodies a true farm-to-table philosophy. This exceptional cheese is proudly crafted in Nebraska, using only the pasteurized whole milk produced right on Jisa Dairy Farms. A cornerstone of their commitment to quality and natural goodness is that their milk comes exclusively from cows that are **not treated with rBST**. They hold themselves to the highest standards in cheesemaking, meticulously maintaining the cleanest and most sanitized environment possible, ensuring that every block of cheese is of superior quality and purity.
Jisa Farmstead Cheese is dedicated to using only top-quality, wholesome ingredients, resulting in an all-natural product that you can feel good about enjoying. Through a specialized feeding program, meticulously developed right at the Jisa Dairy, their milk and, consequently, their cheese carry an elevated level of naturally occurring Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is a vital element in promoting a healthy diet, known for its numerous benefits including supporting heart health and cognitive function. This thoughtful approach to dairy farming and cheesemaking means you’re not just getting delicious cheese, but a product that aligns with a healthy lifestyle.
Understanding rBST: Jisa’s Natural Choice
The term **rBST** stands for recombinant bovine somatotropin. This is a synthetic growth hormone sometimes used in dairy cows to artificially increase milk production. While its use is permitted in the United States, it has been outlawed in many other countries, including Canada and all member states of the European Union, due to concerns over animal welfare. Jisa Farmstead Cheese consciously chooses not to use rBST, reflecting their dedication to natural practices and the health of their herd.
While scientific studies have generally concluded that rBST poses no direct danger to human health through milk consumption, there have been acknowledged risks to animal health, including increased susceptibility to mastitis (udder infection) and other health issues in cows. By opting for rBST-free milk, Jisa Farmstead Cheese supports animal well-being and offers consumers a product made with milk from cows raised without artificial growth hormones, a choice many consumers actively seek for both ethical and personal health reasons.
The Simple Ingredients for Italian Cheese Bombs
One of the most appealing aspects of this **garlic cheese bomb recipe** is its remarkable simplicity. As mentioned, you only need 5 core ingredients to bring these savory delights to life! Each ingredient plays a crucial role in creating the perfect balance of flavor and texture, making the preparation process quick and straightforward. Here’s a detailed look at what you’ll need to gather:
- Jisa Farmstead Tomato Basil Cheese: The star of the show! Its unique flavor profile and creamy texture are essential for that authentic Italian taste.
- Refrigerator Biscuits: These provide the perfect tender, flaky wrapper for our cheese. Opt for the classic “flaky layer” style for best results.
- Butter: Salted butter is preferred as it enhances all the savory flavors. Melted butter forms the base for our irresistible garlic-herb brush.
- Garlic Powder: For that essential aromatic Italian kick. It blends seamlessly with the butter and seasonings.
- Italian Seasoning: A fragrant blend of dried herbs like oregano, basil, thyme, and rosemary, delivering classic Italian flavors.
- Marinara Sauce (optional for serving): While optional, a warm, rich marinara sauce is the ideal companion for dipping these cheesy bombs.
This minimal ingredient list ensures that even novice cooks can achieve delicious results with ease. The quality of each ingredient, especially the cheese, truly shines through in the final product, making every bite a treat.
How to Make Jisa’s Tomato Basil Cheese Stuffed Biscuits
Creating these delightful **Italian cheese bombs** is incredibly simple, requiring minimal effort for maximum flavor. Follow these easy steps to bring these cheesy bites to your table:
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). While the oven heats, lightly spray a 10-inch cast-iron skillet (or a similar oven-safe baking dish) with non-stick cooking spray. This will prevent the biscuits from sticking and ensure a beautiful golden crust.
Step 2: Prepare the Cheese and Biscuits
Carefully unwrap your Jisa Tomato Basil cheese block. Using a sharp knife, cut the entire block into 16 even-sized squares. Next, open the can of refrigerator biscuits. Take each of the 8 biscuits and cut it in half, creating 16 smaller biscuit pieces.

Step 3: Stuff the Cheese Bombs
Flatten one half of a biscuit dough piece slightly in your palm. Place one square of the Jisa Tomato Basil cheese directly in the center of the flattened dough. Carefully wrap the dough around the cheese cube, ensuring the cheese is completely enclosed. Pinch the edges of the dough firmly together to seal, preventing any cheese from escaping during baking.

Step 4: Arrange and Brush
Place each cheese-stuffed biscuit ball, seam side down, into the prepared cast-iron skillet. Arrange them in a single layer, leaving a little space in between each one to allow for expansion as they bake and puff up. In a small bowl, melt the butter. Whisk in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning until well combined. Using a pastry brush, generously brush this aromatic garlic butter mixture over the tops of all the biscuit balls. Set aside any remaining butter for later.

Step 5: Bake to Perfection
Transfer the skillet to your preheated oven and bake for approximately 12-15 minutes, or until the **cheese bombs** are beautifully puffed up and golden brown on top. The exact baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven, so keep an eye on them towards the end. For an extra touch of richness and shine, if desired, brush them with the remaining garlic butter immediately after you take them out of the oven.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
These delightful **Italian cheese bombs** are best served hot, straight from the skillet. Arrange a small bowl of warm marinara sauce in the center of the skillet or on the side for dipping. Watch as your guests eagerly pull apart the flaky biscuits to reveal the molten, flavorful cheese within. Enjoy!

Initially, I considered transferring these beautiful creations to a fancy serving tray, but I’m so glad I decided against it! After sampling a couple of them piping hot, fresh out of the oven, I realized that the empty space created in the center of the skillet was absolutely perfect for holding a small bowl of marinara sauce. Not only did the cast-iron skillet add a wonderful rustic charm to the presentation, but it also kept the **Italian Cheese Bombs** delightfully warm for an extended period, allowing everyone to enjoy them at their optimal temperature. This simple serving hack makes entertaining even easier and more appealing.
The Heartwarming Story Behind Jisa Farmstead Cheese
The legacy of Jisa Farmstead Cheese began in 1946, just outside the charming town of Brainard, Nebraska. It was here that Lad Jisa embarked on a dream, establishing a dairy farm with a modest herd of Holsteins. Over the decades, that dream has flourished into a thriving operation, now milking over 300 cows and meticulously managed by Lad’s son, Dave, alongside his sons, David and John. This generational commitment ensures that every drop of milk used for Jisa Farmstead Cheese comes exclusively from their very own dairy farm, guaranteeing unparalleled freshness and quality control from grass to gourmet product.
The decision to venture into cheesemaking was born out of necessity and ingenuity. When milk prices experienced a significant downturn, the Jisa family, like many other dairy farmers, recognized the critical need to diversify their operations. Dave Jisa, with a proactive spirit, collaborated closely with the University of Nebraska, immersing himself in the intricate art and science of cheesemaking. This partnership not only provided invaluable knowledge but also forged a path for the farm’s sustainable future.
Jisa’s Farmstead Cheese officially became a reality in the spring of 2005, with the grand opening of their impressive 6,000-square-foot plant. Conveniently located just about a half-mile North of the original Jisa dairy farm, this state-of-the-art facility stands as a testament to their dedication. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, you can witness the entire cheesemaking process in full swing through a huge observation window that overlooks the bustling factory floor. It’s a transparent and educational experience that showcases their passion and craftsmanship.
