When I engage with my community on social media, asking about their most cherished childhood meals or the ultimate definition of comfort food, “Chicken & Noodles” consistently emerges as a top contender. It embodies that quintessential homemade, homestyle goodness that instantly brings to mind cherished memories of Mom’s cooking and cozy family gatherings. There’s something inherently nostalgic about this dish, a simple yet profoundly satisfying meal that transcends generations.

I recall countless hours spent in the kitchen as a child, helping my mom make fresh egg noodles from scratch. While the process itself wasn’t overly complicated – a simple blend of flour, eggs, and a little water – the patience required for them to dry properly often felt like an eternity. My grandma, ever the resourceful cook, would even prepare her fantastic homemade noodles when they were out camping, proving that a truly delicious meal knew no boundaries. Those memories are beautiful, but in today’s fast-paced world, finding that kind of time can be a luxury.

Thankfully, modern convenience offers fantastic shortcuts without sacrificing flavor. These days, you can easily find high-quality frozen egg noodles in the freezer section of your local grocery store. Opting for these significantly simplifies the process, making your life a whole lot easier and bringing this classic comfort food within reach on even the busiest weeknights.

What Ingredients do I need to make Gary’s 20 Minute Chicken & Noodles?

Creating this satisfying, speedy chicken and noodles recipe requires only a handful of readily available ingredients, many of which you likely already have in your pantry or freezer. The key to its quick preparation lies in the smart use of high-quality convenience items that deliver maximum flavor with minimal effort:

  • Gary’s QuickSteak Chicken Philly Meat (the secret to speed and flavor!)
  • Frozen Peas and Carrots (a vibrant, ready-to-use vegetable blend)
  • Frozen Egg Noodles (our time-saving noodle solution)
  • Chicken Stock (the foundation for our rich gravy)
  • Butter (adds richness and helps create the roux)
  • Celery Seed, Salt & Pepper, Dried Chopped Onion (essential seasonings for classic flavor)
  • Flour (for thickening our luxurious gravy)

Your culinary journey begins by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, ready to prepare your frozen egg noodles according to package directions. This step can often be done simultaneously with the chicken prep, making the entire process highly efficient.

Preparing Gary's QuickSteak Chicken for noodles

While your egg noodles are happily simmering, turn your attention to the heart of the dish: the chicken. In a sturdy Dutch oven or a large, deep pot, cook the Gary’s QuickSteak chicken over medium-high heat. As it cooks, use your spatula to easily chop it into smaller, bite-sized pieces, perfect for blending into the noodle dish. You’ll notice the package comes with a “WOW Seasoning Packet” – for this specific chicken and noodles recipe, you won’t need it, but don’t even think about discarding it! That seasoning is fantastic sprinkled on french fries, baked potatoes, or even roasted vegetables, so save it for another culinary adventure. Once the chicken is thoroughly cooked through and lightly browned, add the butter to the pot. Allow it to melt, then sprinkle the flour evenly over the chicken, stirring continuously to ensure every piece is perfectly coated. This creates the foundational roux for our creamy, delicious gravy.

Adding ingredients to chicken for gravy

Next, pour in your chicken stock, then add the dried chopped onion, celery seed, and the vibrant frozen peas and carrots. Give everything a good stir to combine all the flavors. Season generously with salt and pepper to your personal taste. As you continue to stir, you’ll witness the magic unfold: the sauce will begin to thicken almost instantly, transforming into a rich, velvety gravy in just a matter of a few minutes. The aroma alone is enough to make your mouth water!

Combining noodles with chicken and gravy

By this point, your perfectly cooked noodles should be ready. Reduce the heat under your bubbling gravy to medium. Carefully drain the noodles, then pour them directly into the pot with the luscious chicken and gravy. Stir gently but thoroughly to ensure every noodle is beautifully coated in the creamy sauce and mixed with the tender chicken and vegetables. Allow it to heat through for just another minute or two, making sure everything is piping hot. Then, it’s time to serve this exquisite dish immediately and savor every comforting bite.

Serving 20 Minute Chicken & Noodles

For an even more satisfying experience, we absolutely love serving hearty meals like this with warm, flaky buttermilk biscuits on the side. Their soft texture and slight tang provide the perfect complement to the rich, savory chicken and noodles, making for a truly unforgettable comfort meal.
